Air Quality Monitoring Update – data now available and dust diary launched

The EPA is conducting a 12-month air quality monitoring campaign to better understand the levels of particulate matter (which includes dust) in the air and the extent of dust impacts experienced by the Sellicks Beach community.

A mobile air quality monitoring station was established in November 2025 near the intersection of Sellicks Beach Road and Lurline Boulevard. The station is monitoring:

  • Total Suspended Particulates (TSP)
  • Particles with an aerodynamic diameter of 10 micrometres or less (PM10)
  • Respirable Crystalline Silica (RCS)
  • Wind speed
  • Wind direction.

You can view near real-time data from the monitoring station on our website.

The EPA will also issue quarterly fact sheets summarising the data, and a report covering the entire monitoring period will be prepared following completion of the campaign.

Read more about the campaign in our December 2025 Community Update.

Sellicks Beach community dust diary

In parallel with the 12-month air quality monitoring campaign, the EPA has created the Sellicks Beach community dust diary to learn more about how community members experience dust from day to day.

The community dust diary gives you the opportunity to share your personal experience of dust directly with the EPA through a dedicated diary.

The EPA will periodically compare the results from the monitoring campaign with the information shared by the community to better understand the relationship between monitored dust levels and the experiences of community members.

We encourage residents of Sellicks Beach to complete the dust diary once per day on days where there are noticeable dust impacts.
