Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) Trial Completed

The EPA has been notified that the RDF trial has been completed.

Throughout the RDF trial, the EPA closely regulated Adbri’s Birkenhead facility through inspections, both announced and unannounced, and assessed measures that Adbri implemented to minimise impacts of its cement production operations.

A post-trial report must be submitted to the EPA within 90 days. The report must include an evaluation of whether Adbri met the trial objectives and an assessment of the environmental outcomes, including results of stack emissions testing and air dispersion modelling. It must also include an evaluation of operational performance and process stability, as well as an assessment of the uniformity of the RDF trialled.

The EPA will assess the report and determine whether the trial demonstrated acceptable environmental performance and compliance with required outcomes.

Finalisation of the assessment of the post-trial report does not constitute approval for ongoing long-term use of RDF in Adbri’s Cement Kiln.
