Adbri - Birkenhead

Birkenhead

The Adbri Cement site is located on the Lefevre Peninsula, in an industrial area that is adjacent to the residential areas of Birkenhead, Peterhead and Largs Bay. Adbri produces a range of cement and cement products. Cement production started at the Birkenhead site in 1911. Adbri is licensed by the EPA (EPA Licence 1126).

The EPA acknowledges that the community is concerned about ongoing dust emissions from the Adbri Birkenhead site. The EPA is working to ensure that continuous improvement of dust controls remains an important focus in its regulation of Adbri and has required Adbri to develop and implement an Environmental Improvement Programme (EIP) to reduce both stack and fugitive particulate emissions.

The EPA has added two new features to the Air Quality Monitoring webpage: the ability to download the last two months of air quality monitoring data, and an email alert feature to notify active subscribers when stations have elevated concentrations.

The EPA attends Adbri Community Liaison Group (CLG) meetings and provides quarterly updates on its air quality monitoring data and specifically on any recorded elevated dust events and exceedances of PM10 (measuring particles less than 10 micrometres in diameter) and PM2.5 (particles less than 2.5 micrometres in diameter) standards at its LeFevre #1 Monitoring Station

Reports of dust can be submitted to the EPA by email.
