GPA Review – May 2026 Update
As part of Stage 2 of the Edwardstown GPA Review, the EPA is starting an environmental assessment in Park Holme in May 2026. Stage 1 assessment found that groundwater near the western boundary of the GPA is contaminated with trichloroethene (TCE) at concentrations above the drinking water guideline.
Based on this finding, Stage 2 of the review includes a new environmental assessment in parts of Park Holme and Morphettville to better understand how far the groundwater contamination extends to the west of the existing GPA. As part of this assessment, the EPA will install groundwater monitoring wells in public spaces, including roads and roadside verges, to test levels of TCE in groundwater across the area.
Stage 2 assessment also involves installing and sampling new groundwater monitoring wells within the current GPA and sampling selected wells in the EPA’s existing groundwater monitoring network. The focus of this work is to understand how deep the contamination is within the groundwater system.
Next steps
Once the assessment is complete, the EPA's priority will be determining whether the existing GPA needs to be expanded.
An environmental assessment report will be prepared and published on this page.
